Cricket

Cricket is one of those Marmite sports - you either love it or you hate it. It can be a very frustrating game to photograph. You can sit there in the sunshine for hours waiting for something to happen - nothing does - so you leave the game for a cup of tea - suddenly while you are in the clubhouse two wickets go down and a batsman makes his century.

A camera with a fast shutter speed is essential and one that capture as many frames per second as possible. But even if you had 10, 15, 20, 30, frames a second you can still miss the shot, obvious I know but you still have to press the shutter and react at the right moment. These two shots are of South African all-rounder Koot Piennar playing for Tunbridge Wells team Linden Park.

During one match he makes a spectacular diving catch then the following week trying to repeat his superb catch he manages to break a finger in the attempt. Both shots Canon 1DX Mk 1 1/8000th sec.
